-no starbucks please…
this video transports me to the 70s in some small desert town.
also, in addition to some new-ish tour dates in december and january, beach house will be performing at SXSW ’09. so if you’re in austin in mid-march, go for me…and tell victoria and alex that i love them both dearly.
one more beach house note:
watch this video of a live performance of “used to be” (and beloved throwback) on some beach in sydney…

i hope this doesn’t happen…but i’m also interested to see how it is if it does happen (which is probably more likely).
oh…i didn’t say what it is. steven spielberg wants to redo Old Boy. if you haven’t seen it, go watch it. right now. it’s a korean film about a guy who gets kidnapped and his path to (very graphic) revenge…except it’s not as simple as that. anyway, this is the part that really gets me about the supposed remake. it’s supposed to star…Will Smith. forreal?!

the first megapuss song i ever heard. my favorite megapuss song. first video from megapuss. it’s really funny and random and lewd.
also, aziz ansari is coming to washu. what if…what if…we somehow got megapuss here?! optimism.

is devendra banhart, the drummer from the strokes, and some other guy who was in some other band. and together they make sweet. sweet sticky jam music. mmm. i *obtained* their debut album surfing recently, and i don’t want to stop listening to it. ever.
when i first heard “adam and steve” on megapuss’s myspace, a familiar saxophone riff caught my attention (as if i wasn’t already listening intently). after some phone calls and piecing together words as they came to mind sporadically, i identified the sample as (i don’t think you’re ready for this) the song where george michael says he never wants to dance again!! for real! and that’s when i learned, not decided, that megapuss is the most amazing band in the u.s. right now.
i like almost every song on the album, but a few really dug into my brainsoil (huh?).
“crop circle jerk ’94”: the title confused me…and then i learned what circle jerk is.
“duck people duck man”: aziz ansari is on this track…talking about duck people stereotypes (some of which might be TRUE or might be not true)
“a gun on his hip and a rose on his chest”: damn. just listen to it. it’s funny…but they’re not kidding. (by the way, have you seen the photo of devendra wearing his new belt?

new music! new music! everywhere!
this comes from beach house’s forthcoming release used to be.
-when there’s nothing left to pretend, we’ll know it’s coming to an end.

i’m convinced that ezra koenig and co. can do no wrong, and their new song “ottoman,” which is featured on the nick and norah’s infinite playlist soundtrack, supports that notion. there’s a noticeably different instrumentation and softer vocals that makes this song less “danceable” than those we’re familiar with. still, while they’re trying a new sound, they make it easy to remember how and why our love affair began.
anyway, you can listen to the song on stereogum.
-this feels so unnatural. peter gabriel too. sadataaaay
i’ve been really eager to hear what jack white and alicia keys sound like together…i still don’t know, BUT i do know what the theme song for Quantum Solace sounds like. a new ad for coke features part of the instrumental for their newly and oh-so-cleverly named drink “zero zero 7.”
apparently though, jack white didn’t approve coke’s use of his song…so i actually feel kind of bad posting this. but it’s so good, and i think everyone should hear it!!
-jack white is the shit. foreal. sadatay.
i like it even better than the original.
